Simon Daum. Composer, Pianist, and Purveyor of Comforting Minimalism
Born into a family of musicians, it was inevitable that Simon Daum would find his way to the piano. According to family legend, the moment Simon could walk, he made a beeline for the piano, and by age three, he was already attempting his first compositions (even if they were more "abstract improvisations").

At the age of eight, Simon's parents thought formal piano lessons might sharpen his budding talent. Little did they know that Simon's creative spirit would rebel against "playing what other people wrote." After two years of diligently avoiding practice and creating his own melodies, Simon’s parents tried redirecting him to trumpet lessons. Spoiler alert: the trumpet didn't stand a chance either.

At 11 years old, Simon discovered the music of American composer and pianist Jon Schmidt, now widely known as a member of The Piano Guys. Schmidt’s music and mentorship profoundly inspired Simon, sparking his determination to become a full-time musician and cementing his love for composing piano music.

Simon’s first love was solo piano music—simple, emotional, and reflective. Over time, however, his fascination expanded to orchestrating for other instruments, leading to a portfolio that ranges from minimal piano music to chamber and orchestral compositions. His genres include neoclassical, modern piano music, ethereal soundscapes, emotional soundtracks, ambient music, and even the occasional foray into epic music and world-inspired pieces.

At 32, Simon’s life took a dramatic turn when environmental toxification left him bedridden for several years. This challenging period forced him to step away from music, but it also deepened his appreciation for its healing power. Music became Simon’s solace, helping him find strength during his recovery. Now, his greatest aspiration is to create music that offers comfort, peace, and hope—a soundtrack for resilience and reflection.

Simon’s music is often compared to that of Max Richter, Ludovico Einaudi, Thomas Newman, and Yann Tiersen. With delicate piano melodies, lush chamber arrangements, and emotive storytelling, Simon crafts pieces that resonate deeply with fans of modern, minimal, and cinematic music.

When he’s not composing, Simon shares his passion with the world through his YouTube channel, where listeners can immerse themselves in his original works. His sheet music is also available for fellow pianists eager to bring his creations to life.

For Simon, music isn’t just sound—it’s a refuge, a reflection, and a gift to share. If you’re seeking music that uplifts, calms, and inspires, you’re in the right place.

Currently Simon, his wife and two boys live close to Freiburg, Germany. Up to this day, Simon has released 24 music albums.
